If you, or your child’s teachers suspect an auditory processing issue, booking in a full CAP assessment can help guide appropriate treatment options.
Additionally, CAP testing is recommended for school-aged children with noted concerns about their behaviour, academic performance, or emotion regulation. Obtaining a comprehensive picture of different auditory processing skills can ascertain the secondary effects of CAPD.
Early identification and remediation of CAPD can lessen the adverse effects on wellbeing and academic performance.
Referrals are not required for booking an assessment, however a doctor’s referral allow for a medicare rebate to be claimed.

As auditory processing relies on interpreting the signals received by our ears and relayed to our brain, a hearing assessment is conducted first to ensure CAP results are reliable and specific. Should a peripheral hearing issue be detected at the first session, the second session for the CAP testing is cancelled and will need to be rescheduled. Recommendations for further medical investigation or intervention will be recommended if warranted.
Once any hearing issues have resolved, we will need to reassess their hearing before proceeding with the CAP testing. This is done to ensure any previous concerns have fully resolved and will not affect CAP assessment performance and results.
