This is the use of multiple modes of communication technology in order to deliver Audiological services and procedures without face to face consultation. This can include:
Telephone: a simple phone call working through a set process of questions to troubleshoot issues in attempt to resolve. We can also pre-program/adjust devices in house and then follow up with a call to check on outcomes, this can include new fittings for some devices. If outcomes are less than optimal and require further face to face consultations then this can be done at a later date once social isolation restrictions are lifted.
Web browser or phone/tablet applications: video face to face consultations through the use of these which supplements communication with visual cues, which is very handy if you are hard of hearing. We can provide the same above pre-programmed/adjusted hearing aid options including new hearing aid fittings. In addition to this for some hearing aids/cochlear processors/BAHA you can download hearing aid and screen sharing software and we can then post programming devices and do adjustments, in situ hearing tests and ascertain the hearing aid function.
Remote Care Hearing aids: many hearing aids now have remote care functions built into them where the hearing aids interface with an associated smart phone/tablet app. The app allows face to face video chat and for the audiologist to access and adjust the hearing aids with the Bluetooth of the smart phone/tablet. Some of these devices and applications will also allow in situ hearing tests to be done with the hearing aids as well. Select our Remote Care search function in our hearing aid search function. See below for a list of hearing aid brands and associated remote care smart phone applications.
Phonak Marvel- “myPhonak” applicaion

Hearing aid/Cochlear Implant/BAHA adjustments via in clinic drop off: either via drop off boxes in our main clinic locations in Hermit Park, Spring Hill, Hope Island and North Mackay, or via post. Please provide an accompanying clear written description (download adjustment/repair form here) of the problem or contact phone number that we can call to get these details. Once isolation restrictions are lifted then we can perform a complete face to face consultation.
Hearing aid/Cochlear Implant/BAHA troubleshooting assistance via the telephone or live web chat: Audiologists and Audiology assistants will be available to provide clinical support and assistance during working hours. There is currently a web live chat that can be used in addition to normal phone calls and we are working on a secure live video option through our browser.
Telehealth/Remote care hearing aid Review/Follow up: if you have recently been fitted with hearing aids our Audiologists will continue to provide the accompanying rehabilitation and review via telehealth, a live video app such as Skype or via a remote care app. If the hearing aid has a remote care capability, then hearing aid adjustments can be made via this mechanism or if urgent hearing aids can be posted or dropped off for follow up accompanying adjustments. Once isolation restrictions are lifted then we can again we can perform a complete face to face consultation.
Telehealth/Remote care hearing aid fitting: for some patients if we have a recent copy of recent audiogram (hearing test results) then we can order and pre-program hearing aids and post or pick up from the above clinic locations and a TeleAudiology/Remote care fitting and fine tuning can be booked to go through device use and accompanying rehabilitation. Hearing aids are set up to recognised non-face to face methods using a 2cc coupler/simulated ear before posting or pick up. Again video calls can be done through Face Time, Skype, Messenger or any other video meeting devices including in built remote care hearing aid apps. There are also Personal Sound Amplifiers (PSA) which are basically pre-set “hearing aids” which can be personally matched by the wearer themselves with mild to moderate hearing loss. Once isolation restrictions are lifted then we can perform a complete face to face consultation.
Telehealth/Remote care Annual Reviews (940): we can also perform Client Annual Reviews. Our friendly administration can call when due for annual check up and see if you feel hearing has changed significantly since your last consultation. If not then we can proceed to offer a Tele-Health or Remote Care consult with an Audiologist who will go through any problems that they may be having, do some troubleshooting, offer some strategies and explanations on any issues experienced. If the hearing aids are equipped with remote care then can do live adjustments, or Auds may advise to send the aids in for reprogramming and servicing via postage or drop off points. We will also immediately offer posting out domes/tubes/cerustops/batteries etc in preparation for the appointment.
Telehealth/Remote care Initial consultation HSP and Private: If you have not had a consultation with us yet you can still be booked in for an assessment of communication needs via telehealth/remote care. If HSP and have a current voucher we can and get your file and last audiogram and book the initial consultation without a hearing test and we can look at your current hearing aid data. communication needs and ascertain if the devices are still suitable or they require a refit (if eligible). If not eligible for a refit we can look at adjusting accordingly aids accordingly either via remote care or drop off points. If you are a private patient (not HSP eligible) and have recent or new audiogram then we can use that or get consent to obtain from your previous provider. If you have no previous test we can still book in for an initial consultation and then for now refer to online hearing testing web sites, smart phone/tablet applications. Between the two we should have a very good idea on what devices and accompanying rehabilitation would be most suitable for your loss and prescribe hearing aids and perform in situ audiometry with the hearing aids (hearing test through the hearing aids) via remote care accordingly. Once social isolation restrictions are lifted then we can perform a complete face to face consultation.
If a face to face (video) can not be done then we have our “face to face free” facilities available in Townsville, Mackay and Spring Hill where our own remote care video conferencing fitting set up can be done.

You can rest assured that if you choose Clarity as your hearing health provider you get an established, professional clinical team focused on your hearing health, not on sales. Our practice follows five principles for ethical treatment of hearing loss, which ensures you get the best hearing solutions for your hearing loss:
Accurate diagnosis: We only employ the best University Masters qualified and registered Audiologists and we take the time to ensure we accurately diagnose your hearing loss through a comprehensive hearing assessment, not just a hearing screen.
Evidence-based recommendations and treatment: We only prescribe treatment, hearing aids and features where there’s medical evidence it will actually help you and, importantly, suit your lifestyle. This means that if amplification via hearing aids won’t help with your specific hearing loss, we will not recommend or prescribe them. Hearing loss is a complex pathology and a one size fits all approach will never address your personal experience of hearing loss or damage.
Ethical and transparent pricing: Our margins are the same across our entire range of hearing aids. This ensures there is no incentive to over-prescribe technology other than what is best for you. We earn our income from our clinical time – our expertise – just like your GP or Physiotherapist. This also means we can keep our hearing aid pricing low with prices in some cases close to wholesale.
No sales commissions: Our clinicians are here to give you better hearing – not to sell you a hearing aid. By removing sales commissions and sales targets our audiologists can focus on treating your hearing loss, not selling you a hearing aid.
Independent since 2008: Being independent we can provide hearing aids and implants from all manufacturers to ensure we can select the right options for your hearing needs. We will offer you a choice of options at different price points that will treat your hearing loss and we will take the time to explain the benefits and features of each option.
