From the Clinic: Matthew’s hearing aids took a beating on the golf course

21/07/2017 - From the Clinic, Hearing Aids, Hearing loss, Tinnitus, Treatment

Matthew was like so many people who have hearing aids. He was prescribed hearing aids but hardly ever wore them. They ended up in the drawer. Matthew came to see us at our Townsville clinic after having been with another provider. He had been fitted in 2014 with hearing aids that seemed to cut out a lot and he didn’t feel they were suitable for his active lifestyle. He wanted to see if we could help.

Matthew plays golf a lot and found the moisture from sweat was causing issues for the aids as well.

In addition to this, Matthew also suffered from tinnitus. However, the aids Matthew had been fitted with didn’t include a tinnitus management program.

After a new hearing loss assessment Clarity fitted Matthew with new Quantum2 E S hearing aids free of charge under the Office of Hearing Services program. The Quantum2 E S has an IP rating of 67 which will handle the sweat from Matthew driving golf balls down the fairway no problems.

It also comes with a built-in tinnitus management program to allow Matthew to manage his tinnitus as best as possible. And to further benefit his game on the green, Clarity’s audiologist also set up an Outdoors sound program Matthew can use to help hear in wind and noise.

At our follow-up appointment Matthew reported being able to hear much better than before and he was really happy with the outcome. But he didn’t tell us if it has helped improve his golf handicap!
