The latest hearing device to land in Australia is the Phonak Audeo Marvel, which became available for pre-order this week.
Phonak, part of the Swiss-based Sonova group, has had some great innovative products on the market including the Virto B Titanium and the amazing Lyric, which we love. The Marvel delivers on two fronts that we know a lot of patients are looking for.
This is what we have been waiting for. We have seen direct to iOS devices on the market for a while and many of these devices can also stream to Android, but you need an intermediate device that takes the signal from the Android device and translates it into a signal the hearing aid can understand. The Phonak Audeo Marvel is really world-first technology with direct streaming from your Android device to both ears. In fact, the Marvel is the world’s first Bluetooth hearing aid with the ability to stream from billions of Bluetooth devices including Android and iPhone.
The Marvel uses Bluetooth® 4.2 wireless technology and can connect directly to either iOS or Android smartphones or other Bluetooth® enabled phones or devices to stream any kind of audio including speech, music, videos, e-books, podcasts and much. No other device needed. This includes the ability to use the hearing aids as true hands-free devices using the built-in microphones.
It is worth highlighting these Marvel features:
Now if you want the best out of your TV or Hi-Fi the Phonak Audeo Marvel also features proprietary AirStream™ technology. Using the Phonak TV Connector accessory, available separately, you can enjoy high-quality streaming from your TV, Hi-Fi or any device with optical or 3.5mm audio interfaces. The Phonak TV Connector is a simple plug-and-play device that will allow you top quality streaming sound from any connectable device.
If you have any Phonak Roger devices the Phonak Audeo Marvel will also get RogerDirect™ (via a firmware update in September 2019), which allows Roger technology to stream directly to Marvel hearing aids without needing an external receiver.
The first thing it does well is that the Marvel comes in a rechargeable option. We find more and more people choose rechargeable options as these become more affordable and increasingly reliable. It can also help people who may have dexterity issues that have trouble changing small hearing aid batteries. It will certainly also save a bundle of throw-away single-use batteries during the life of the hearing aid.
The second thing the Audéo Marvel does well is rechargeability. The Phonak Audeo Marvel uses lithium-ion rechargeable battery technology. This is the same you find in your smartphone, which offers long, reliable battery life. The batteries in the Phonak Audéo Marvel are engineered to last six years and take little time to charge.
It takes just three hours to charge from 0% to 100% and 1.5 hours to charge from 0% to 80%.
The Marvel includes the Mini Charger Case, which comes with a power supply and USB-C cable and you can use a standard USB-C charging outlet as well. Other optional charging options are available including ones with power-packs so you can charge on the go.
With the lithium-ion batteries in the Marvel you can enjoy a full day of hearing including five hours of streaming. It’s worth pointing out that Apple’s current crop of wireless earbuds only promise five hours of streaming before they will need recharging. The Marvels can be used all day .
The Marvel will eventually be available in a range of models including size 13 battery models and models with Telecoil. For the initial release Phonak have launched the size 312 battery and the rechargeable option in four technology levels:
It comes in a range of nine colours so you can choose one that suits your style perfectly.
Imagine having an appointment with your audiologist without leaving your loungeroom!
The Audeo Marvel comes built in with tele-audiology technology, or what we call Clarity RemoteCare. With Clarity RemoteCare you can make an appointment for the adjustment of your hearing aids with your audiologist like you normally would, but instead of going to the clinic you just open up your Phonak app on your smartphone and video conference with your clinician. The clinician can then make updates and adjustments to the settings on your devices on the go over your smartphone connection.
It means more convenience and potentially faster fine-tuning of your device so you get the best hearing possible quicker.
RemoteCare requires the myPhonak App – check to ensure your phone is compatible here: https://marvel-support.phonak.com/en/audeo-m-cell-phone-compatibility/
